Combined Ratio

A key financial metric for property and casualty (P&C) insurers. It measures profitability from underwriting activities. It is calculated as the sum of the Loss Ratio (losses and loss adjustment expenses divided by earned premiums) and the Expense Ratio (underwriting expenses divided by written premiums). A combined ratio below $100\%$ indicates an underwriting profit.
