Insurable Interest

For a policy to be valid, the policyholder must have an insurable interest in the subject of the insurance. This means the policyholder would suffer a direct financial loss if the insured property is damaged or destroyed, or if the insured person dies. For property insurance, this must exist at the time of the loss; for life insurance, it must exist at the time of policy purchase
